Coors Light Sponsors the Florida Gay Rodeo
Coors Light has signed on as the platinum sponsor of the Florida Gay Rodeo Association's largest event, the 2007 Sunshine Stampede. Coors is a leader among U.S. companies in its support of its GLBT employees and consumers and will be a great asset to the Sunshine Stampede, which will be held the weekend of April 13-15, 2007, at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds in Davie, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale.
Men and women of all ages and abilities will gather for the three-day event, which was formed in 2006 to bring together members of the gay and lesbian community who celebrate a love of the sport. The Florida Gay Rodeo Association is a member of the International Gay Rodeo Association, which has around 4,500 members and hosts events in 33 regions in the United States and Canada. Last years Sunshine Stampede brought together over 4,500 participants and the organizers plan for this year to be even bigger.
"Florida Gay Rodeo Association is extremely proud to be partnered with Coors Light for the 2007 Sunshine Stampede and beyond," said Jim Mitchell, Florida Gay Rodeo Association's Rodeo Director. "Their generosity and allegiance with our organization demonstrates how corporations and not-for-profit organizations can work together. This rodeo is a sporting event where everyone is welcome as a competitor, spectator or volunteer. We thank Coors Light for its support as Florida Gay Rodeo Association brings another first class event to South Florida."
With a perfect score (100%) on the Human Rights Campaign Corporate Equality Index and inclusion in the "Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality" list, Coors has proven to be an extremely gay friendly company. In 1978, the brewery instituted a gay- and lesbian-inclusive non-discrimination policy, making it one of the first U.S. companies in any industry to do so. In 1995, Coors became the first major American brewery to offer same-sex partner health benefits to its employees. More than ten years ago, the company created the Lesbian and Gay Employee Resource Council (LAGER), which provides an employee support network and actively advises senior management on issues related to GLBT employees and the GLBT community as a whole.
